Copywriting / Small words. Useful guidance.
UX writing & notifications
Push notifications, onboarding, forms, error messages and in-app copy that help people understand what is happening and act.
A closer look
What does the person need to know at this exact moment?
Each message explains the state and provides a relevant action. The reminder assumes the user requested it. The error wording must reflect whether unsaved changes are actually preserved by the product.
Illustrative example
Three states in a fictional planning app
Empty state — No tasks yet. Add the first thing you want to work on. Button: Add a task.
Save error — Your changes haven’t saved. Check your connection and try again. Button: Try again.
Requested reminder — Review your project plan. Your reminder for today is ready. Action: Open the plan.

How I approach the work
From the brief
to the right words.
- 01
Understand the state
Map what happened, what the system knows and what the user can do. Ask about constraints before choosing reassuring language.
- 02
Write the complete interaction
Align headings, fields, help text, buttons and notifications. Use specific actions and familiar terminology.
- 03
Review edge cases
Check empty, loading, success and failure states, space limits and localisation needs with the product team.
The scope
What we can
build together.
A single deliverable, a connected campaign or ongoing support. The scope, timing and review rounds are agreed after the brief.
- Onboarding and interface copy
- Push, SMS and in-app messages
- Forms, errors and empty states
- State-by-state copy deck and terminology notes
Before we start
A useful brief
makes a difference.
Provide the flow, screen designs, character limits, trigger rules and actual system behaviour.
Working in another market? I can translate and adapt the copy around local keywords, terminology and audience expectations. Tell me the language and country the work is intended for.
For editing, include the existing version and what you want to improve. For new writing, share any evidence or product details the copy must reflect.
